We love Mexico. We love the places, the people, the customs, the history, we love all of it. We’re also really big fans of Agave, and that’s why we started Hasta La Cruz – to source the quality Mescales, Tequilas, Raicillas etc that we like to drink, and make them available here in Aotearoa.

The Agave Spirits we sell aren't the tasteless liquids made in giant factories that you used to drink as a teenager until you spewed on your shoes – no way - we hunt out the smaller producers who craft these spirits in small batches following traditional methods that haven’t changed in generations. We don’t pretend to be experts on Agave, we’re always learning and we’ll keep adding to our range as we discover new hard to source gems that meet our high standards.

Finally, you may be wondering where the name Hasta La Cruz comes from. If your Spanish is a bit rusty (like ours), the literal meaning is ‘until the cross’. This is a reference to the cross found on the bottom of the small glasses or veladoras that Mezcal is often drunk from and which started life as votive candles (hence the cross). Hasta La Cruz basically means drink until you see the cross or ‘bottoms up!’. There’s a deeper meaning in there too…………but we reckon that’s something you’ll understand more and more the further along el camino del Agave you go.
